A fairytale ending at Gillman Funeral Services

The children of St Mary’s School in Battersea were treated to a magical fairytale experience courtesy of Gillman Funeral Service.

They were learning about fairytales and traditional tales and for the first week in March they became engrossed with the story of Cinderella.

Teacher Lizzy Grayson approached the funeral directors asking for the use of a horse-drawn carriage so the children could see what Cinderella travelled to the ball in. Thanks to the generosity of Supreme Carriages, based in Essex and Norfolk, this dream became a reality and not only did they get to see the carriage, they also got to experience being driven around in style.

Isabel Patchett, Admin Assistant at St Mary’s, said: “We made stained-glass slippers, explored the contents of a pumpkin, and at the end of the week the story was truly brought to life when we were given the chance to ride in the horse-drawn carriage.

“It was a magical experience and the children (and adults) loved every moment. After we had been taken to the ball we were all introduced to the horses themselves and said thank you for our ride by giving them a stroke.

“The experience has inspired our students, many of whom had never seen a horse in the flesh before this point, and has led to much talk and role playing back in the playground. We would like to thank Funeral Partners for providing us with this enchanting opportunity and for helping it all run so smoothly on the day.”
